4 WHAT IS THE NECESSITY TO CELEBRATE THE TERAHBI CUSTOM BY GIVING BHOJ TO PANDITS , LIKE MARRIAGE AT HOME PARTY IN THE HOUSE OF PEOPLES IN GRIEF,?
A HUGE EXPENDITURE IS INCURRED ON GIVING GIFTS ( INCLUDING GIFT OF ALL THE GOODS CONTAINING GOLDEN JEWELLARY USED BY THE EXPIRED PERSON ON THE PRETEXT THAT ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE ENJOYED BY THE ATMA OF THE EXPIRED PERSON WHILE WE SEE THAT THESE ARE BEING USED BY THE PANDIT JI IN HIS HOUSE). ALL OF US DO ALL THESE THINGS WITHOUT WILL SIMPLY BECAUSE LOG KYAA KAHENGE?
‘’Arrebhai log to kuchhnakuchhkahenge’’ whatsoever you do with all your might.
Now I will like to say SOMETHING about the superstitions and why and how these are created in the mind of people ?
KNOWLEDGE and SUPERSTITION both words are contradictory to each other. THE WORD KNOWLEDGE CONTAINS KNOW+EDGE.This means try to understand on the basis of the edge of the logic .Edge means sharpness e.g. SHARPNESS OF THE SWORD,SHARPNESS OF THE KNIFE, SHARPNESS OF THE KNOWLEDGE. It means true knowledge is that which may creat such sharpness in the mind that it may test by the sharpness of the knowledge all those things and information presented by any person or custom ,before accepting it as true or correct oracceptable. As Shri Ram and Shri Krishna finished, those devils (who were having evils and evilsi.e. they were DEVIL in their character) ,by the edge of sword and arrows. We also know very well in our daily life that any fruit or any wooden thing or any part of our body is getting septic then the only remedy is to cut that part by the edge of the knife or the edge of the saw ,in the same way we should test all the old sayings, old customs ,old ideas fully or partly and should be thrown out which seem to be quite 0bsolete or unacceptable , on the edge of the logic .If any or all such ideas, customs or sayings is unacceptable these should not be accepted at all.
Opposite word of KNOWLEDGE is word IGNORANCE i.e. accepting anything without testing the truth about that. Another word for it is SUPERSTITION.If our eyes are open before accepting any thing correct or wrong ,true or false we are AWARE and if otherwise we are UNAWARE or BLIND BELIEVER . Actually blind believer is superstitious THUS ALL THOSE THINGS ,CUSTOMS,AND IDEAS WHICH ARE BELIEVED BLINDLY ARE SUPERSTITION. If blind ,dumb and deaf person
The main cause of the superstitions and their continuance is ILLITERACY, LACK OF PROPER EDUCATION. In ancient periods the kings never wished and tried for the education of their subject i.e. PRAJA simply because it was not possible to rule up to very long time over the educated peoples . In India we live in a democratic country.What is the percentage of literacy in our country? It is very low even in comparison to many countries which name is not known by most of Indians. Without proper education and literacy DEMOCRACY IS THE GOVT. OF FOOLS.
Often we take superstitions as religion. We follow the superstitions as they are or by some modifications. With the GOD we adopt barter system. If the God passes my child in B.Tech I will offer PRASAD OF Rs 101/= TO THE GOD, if the God helps me in owning a big house I will come to Kashi to see THE VISHWANATH JI. If the God gives me a son I will donate 10000/= rupees for the renovation of the temple . We forget that the child will pass B.Tech exam by his hard study and for getting a big house we will have to make efforts honestly and getting a son is a biological process and does not depend upon anybody’s mercy. In this age of science even in the advanced family if any woman is able to conceive ( i.e. she is not getting pregnancy ) only woman is held responsible . If repeatedly a lady give birth to a female child only she is held responsible and treated worst than an animal .The family members forgets that actually neither man nor woman is responsible .ONLY CHANCE IS RESPONSIBLE. Sometime we come in the trap of a TANTRIK for getting a son and on his advice we do often many immoral works e.g. putting got on the altar of theGoddess or some time the lady come under MONEY AND OR sexual exploitation of the fraudulent saints/TANTRIKS.
Here I am giving a list of some superstitions found in our society EVERY WHERE.
1 On the death of a person MANY KARMKAND e.g. TERAHVI ,VARSHI, SERVING FOOD TO THE BRAHMINS AND VAST PORTION OF SOCIETY .IT SEEMS LIKE A MARRIAGE PARTY IS BEING GIVEN .
2 DUE TO FEAR OF ACCIDENT CANCELLATION OR POSTPONEMENT OF JOURNEY IF SOMEBODY SNEEZE OR CAT CROSSES THE ROAD.
3 OFFERING FOOD TO THE BRAHMINS IN ‘’SHRADH PAKSH’’ WITH THE HOPE THAT THE SOUL OF THE DEAD PERSON WILL EAT IT.
4 KILLING A BABY TO OFFER ON THE ALTER OF ANY DEITY TO MAKE HER HAPPY.
5 VISITING ‘’GAYAJI’’ WITH HOPE TO PROVIDE ‘’MOKSH’’TO THE PARENTS AND TO THEIR PARENTS AND TO THEIR PARENTS AND SO ON. THERE AT GAYAJI PANDAS ROB THE INNOCENT PERSON REACHED THERE FOR ABOVE PURPOSE.SOME TIMES EVEN RETURN RAIL/BUS FARE IS NOT LEFT EITH THEM.
6 LADIES UNDER MENSTRURATION ARE VERY ILL TREATED LIKE UNTOUCHABLES SPECIALLY IN RAJASTHAN . MENSTRURATION IS A BIOLOGICAL PROCESS AND NOT AT ALL HARMFUL IF ALLOWED KITCHEN WORKS. I personally saw it in Rajasthan while I was in service in1971.
7 In some places the hair of a widow are cut off and her weeping is ignored.
IN MANY SOCIETIES THE WIDOW IS AVOIDED IN AUSPICIOUS WORKS .
8 INAUGURATION OF SOME WORKS ON VERY SPECIAL DAY,DATE,MONTH etc. SOME THINK A PARTICULAR NUMBER OR WORD OR LETTER OF ALPHABET IS VERY AUSPICIOUS FOR THEM.
9 IN MARRIAGE INSTEAD OF SEEING THE EDU.QUALIFICATION AND OTHER MERITS OF THE BOY AND GIRL THE KUNDLI IS MATCHED. I know a friend of mine who is Pandit doing matching Kundli for marriage. But unfortunately her daughter, for whom he had matched Kundliupto his best , had become widow within two or three years. Really nobody knows anybody’s future of even a minute .We should be ready to face and adjust all the evens and odds of the life.
10 INSTEAD OF GETTING PROPER TREATMENT PEOPLE GO TO THE QUACKS AND TANTRIKS ON THE PLEA THAT SOME SOUL IS LIVING IN ONE’S BODY.THE RESULT IS THAT CASE TURNS WORST AND THE DEATH TAKES PLACE IN MANY CASES.
11 INSTEAD OF KEEPING THE AVAILABILITY OF SUNRAYS AND AIR IN THE HOME WHICH IS MUST FOR HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT OF THE HOME AND ITS RESIDENTS , MANY PEOPLE CONSULT ‘’VASTUSHASTRI’’ AND MAKE ADDITIONS AND ALTERATION AGAINST THE ORIGINAL PLAN BY WASTING HUGE MONEY ON ALTERATIONS AND THE HIGH FEE OF ‘’VASTUSHASTRY’
12 ANOTHER HIGHLY PREVALING SUPERSTITION IS OF GIVING MORE IMPORTANCE TO BOY THAN GIRL BABY. FOT IT TEST FOR GENDER DETERMINATION ARE BEING DONE WITH THE HELP OF THE DOCTOR. WE FAIL TO UNDERSTAND THAT SEX DETERMINATION IS BIOLOGICAL PROCESS IN WHICH X X AND X Y PROMOSOMES PLAY THEIR ROLE AND THE ROLE OF HUSBAND AND WIFE FOR MALE CHILD IS ZERO. IF HUSBAND’S X PROMOSOME AND WIFE’S X PROMOSOME MET EACHOTHER THEN GIRL, IF HUSBAND’S Y AND WIFE ‘S X THEN BOY.ONLY THIS LAW WORKS.
13 THERE IS ALSO A SUPERSTITION THAT ONLY THE SON CAN GIVE FIRE TO THE DEAD BODY OF ANY MAN/WOMAN OTHERWISE THE SOUL DOES NOT GET ‘’ MOKSH”.
As already explained the main cause of the superstitions is FEAR OF MANY TYPES WITHIN US AND LACK OF EDUCATION.BESIDES THE ANCIENT BOOKS LIKE MAHABHARAT ALSO GAVE BIRTH OF SUPERSTITIONS. For example in MAHABHARAT BOOK it is written that KARN WAS BORN FROM THE EAR THEREFORE HIS NAME WASKARN . KARN=KAN. IS IT EVER POSSIBLE TO GIVE BIRTH TO A CHILD FROMEAR. The worship for child or male child is on the basis of old unscientific books treated as HOLY BOOKS while these are spreading superstitions.
If a complete list of all the superstitions is made it will turn the list into a book.

In giving wide publicity to these superstitions , T.V.Channels have played a big role keeping in view only their T.R.P. rate without considering that how much poison of superstitions is being spread in the mind of innocent/ ignorant peoples. Most of the channels have their one astrologer , lucky stone seller, LAKSHMI YANTRA and also DHONGI BABA. Such advertisements are repeated so many times and for a long time to hypnotise the mind of viewer and they get entrapped . We forget that had these things been reality ,the advertisers would have first been MALAMAL WITH THEIR YANTRA. WHY THEY ARE WASTING TIME IN SELLING.?
Another thing we see in Rail and Bus compartment that cheap standard books full of superstitious matters are sold at very low cost and people purchase and read them with great interest and getting their mind polluted. But there is a ray of hope that many social reformer and activists are doing a lot of work to check the flood of superstitions for example VibhaChandravarkar, VimleshSahaiAnand,,KokilaSaxena, Asha Devi, VimalRoy, RatanPrakash, VeenaPurohit, Rakesh Jain, Bhagwati Prasad Dwivedi etc. Some magazines, in which SARITA is on top with its articles ‘’HAMARI BEDIYAN’’ put hammer on SUPERSTITIONS , are also raising their voice against superstitions. In this month of April 2012 A PRAISE WOTHY PROGRAMME “ SATYAMEV JAYATE ‘’ IS BEING SPONSORED AGAINST THE FOETICIDE OF FEMALE BABY IN THE WOMB FOR WHICH NOT ONLY DOCTORS BUT ALSO THE PARENTS ARE ALSO BEING SUITABLY TAKEN TO TASK BY THE POLICE AND THE LAW IS DOING ITS WORK. SOME DOCTORS IN RAJASTHAN HAVE BEEN CAUGHT RED HANDED BY STING OPERATIONS. If this is done by all the States in India this evil of the society can be rooted out .
Have we ever thought that how so many inventions of Science e.g. mobile phone,T.V. ,Digital Camera, Fridge, Micro oven, Computers, Bullet trains , Medical instruments and thousands other INVENTIONS which have changed our life and increased our life span ,could be invented had the inventors would have been superstitious and totally religious? Certainly not. All these inventions could be possible due to continuous dedication of Scientists all over the world who spent their days and nights of their lives in their lavoratory .They did not care for lunch/dinner time, they did not take full sleep for their work. All this could not have been possible for them by spending their time in going in Church,temple, or any worshipping place. This does not mean that they were not religious .The would have been but within a limit giving first priority to their main work of invention. In our country we give much time for worship of Gods instead of paying full attention on our aim of life. Its result can be seen by the fact which all of us know that so far in the history of NOVEL PRIZE WINNERS we have only one name of Ravindranath Tagore from India while in USA ,UK, FRANCE, FERMANY, CANADA, NORWEY, CHINA ,JAPAN, SWEDEN etc. several persons have won this prize. Madam Curie and her husband had won it twice . OUR COUNTRY IS KNOWN AS DHARM GURU BUT CAN IT BE SUFFICIENT IN EVERY SPHERE?
Late ShriVishwanath ex editor of magazine ‘’ SARITA’’ dedicated his life for eradication of superstitions from the lives of Indians in spite of his great opposition by the persons who were earning their bread through the superstitions and related KARMKANDS.He did the same for himself which he said to others and therefore NO KARMKIND LIKE TERAHVI,SUDDHI, PIND DAN, SHRADH etc. WEREPERFORMED AFTER HIS DEATH FOR HIMSELF.
Now it is high time to think on superstitions and the destruction of the society caused by these things and THEREFORE WE SHOULD COME OUT FROM THE WELL OF THE SUPERSTITIONS AND SEE THE OUTER WORLD WHICH IS FULL OF KNOWLEDGE. LET US ALL JOIN S U P E R I N S T I T U T I O N S and not superstitions.
